In order to survive this final test, players are asked to finish in a tiny, top group of just a few at each qualifier. There are normally at least 12 sectional qualifiers - sometimes even 13 - held across the world, but this year that number is 11 with Canada and England’s qualifiers being canceled. “From Many, One,” as the USGA’s new tagline likes to make clear. The event saw 8,680 entrants sign up for their chance at glory. Open field begins to take its final shape today as sectional qualifiers take place across the country. Torrey Pines will host the best players in the world later this month at the U.S.
